My dear Father,
This is the last day I can wait to write you and expect the letter to reach you in [Pomfret?].
My orders have not come as yet, and now, I begin to fear I shall not get them at all. However it seems to me if it was determined in Washington not to order me, I should have heard something from Craighill to that effect.
When you go on to Washington you might go up and see Humphries, and give him to understand that I very much desire to go on duty.
