Portland Me October 12, 1867
My dear Father.
Yours of the 5th came duly to hand. I left the next morning after its arrival for the farm, from where I returned yesterday. I have made a new lease with Ned Gould for three years ending on the 24th of March 1871. As the rent is so low, and it is all spent on the place, I have hopes he will not run the farm down any more than it is. This year I have rebuilt one of the sheep sheds, two corn crib and a new chicken house.
I have not orders as yet and have about made up my mind
