If Ned wants to go to West Point, I am decidedly of the opinion it is the best thing for him, and I would determine to keep trying until you had obtained the appointment. He ought to be very carefully fitted however, particularly in writing and spelling, and I would not care if he did not enter until he was eighteen or nineteen years old. He cannot possibly enter until the Spring or rather June of 1868. when he will be 17yrs and 6mo. old.

I am very busy in my new occupation and am beginning to get more accustomed to them.
