I almost forgot to say that while I was at New York, I went up to West Point to pass Sunday. and saw both Clitz and Ayres. The former was rather frigid and considerably stuck up. Ayres however had quite a conversation with me and from him I learned that Upton's drill was considered by them a very good one. and from all I could learn from conversation with others was rather enjoyable to the board. Upton was there himself and I [?] drinks plenty of whiskey with them. But don't you mind all this Father for they can never get anything better than your third [?] however much they may tinker little details. I see by the papers that I have two Brevets working and a Col. Emma joins me in love to yourself and all at home.

Yr affectn son Thos Lincoln.
