My dear Father.

I have left it much longer since this answer to your last letter than I had any idea, but I am so busy now that time seems to fly like a flash. The last letter I wrote to you was addressed to Sing Sing and contained the news of your Brevet Major Generalcy a fact I had from Frank Fessenden some time before it appeared in the papers and only a few days after you had left here.
