Francisco day before yesterday from Elliot of he Engineers dated February 27th in which he says he has heard that Scott was sick with the diphtheria.

It was a very sudden death of Williams and now I hope Scott will be able to get that place. [?] place I heard was promised to a Capt Foster of the Q.M.D.

Emma and the children are well and send much love. I think of going in to New York next week and stopping at the farm on my return. That is if I can get M Passe on the Rail Roads. John Weir has finished his great picture for which I hear he is to have $6000 and he is to be married to Miss Mary French the middle of May. Ned must be with you about this time.
