My Dear Father


News of the 7th unit was received some time since [?] upon my return from a visit to the various works in the state with the Board of Engineers, of which ex. officio, I was a member. I will leave for Boston tomorrow to attend the meetings of the Board at which time it will be decided what to do with the forts I have charge of, at present, matters are so unsettled [?] that I have about stopped with in the trio in this harbour I still retain under my control [?]. Col. Thom is giving in with Fort Gorges, but I think if his office was not so
