who is staying at the [Maitherson?]. There was a fine dress hop advertised to take place at the above house Thursday evening. I went in my spike tail but I think there were only three so dressed in the room, including myself. It was a regular fizzle. There was a splendid surf yesterday morning, but the beach was very rocky - unless these are covered over by the sands there will be no pleasure in bathing at all.

The other day a young lady was nearly drowned while bathing-she had got beyond her depth, and two waves coming in succession, made her lose her footing. A gentleman standing in shore saw the plight she was in and running in pulled her out. This is an awful pen I am writing with - a regular tube pen - warranted to scratch in a first class manner. I saw a game of polo at the skating rink the other day played on roller skates. It was quite interesting. After the game had been finished, our party together with others put on skates + tried it a little. The floor is of wood and not nearly as good as the Washington Rink.
