My Dear Father,

I arrived here all right this morning - It is a rainy day here, but I guess it will clear up in a short time. I got a stateroom on the boat. My trunk got also safely. I met young Cummings in NY, a cousin of Carrie's. He said he would ask a fellow in the White Star Line to get me an English bicycle. You can get the best for about $85. I hope he can get it. [strikethrough] It would [strikethrough] Cummings didn't know whether he would be willing or not.
