My dear Mother,

I left New Haven on Friday taking the 12:03 train from N.Y. It was an accommodation train and stopped at about every mile post in the line- one of these trains which have the cow catcher fastened on the rear car to prevent the cows from falling on the train. Friday as well as yesterday were terribly hot but i think today is a little cooler although very warm. I met Wright at the Providence boat. We did intend to go on the Newport line if a stateroom could be got and if not on the Providence
