May 8, 1880

My Dear Father,

This is Saturday evg the end of another week. I thought I would start my letter this evening and finish it tomorrow. There doesn't seem to be much news to write, and when this is the case the weather is always an old & reliable standby to commence with - For two or three days this week we have had summer weather, but it has grown cooler now. The trees are coming out here and the grass is all green which gives a pleasant appearance to the city, as there are so many lawns and enclosures. This evening after tea I took a walk

S. looks rather [?]. I went down to see about clothes & you will have to pay about $40 for a suit here which is pretty steep. Yr affec son H.
