My dear General

Yours of the 24th was received yesterday. Not a word has been said to me by the Mayors Committee about our being no longer needed and I only know of it from the news-papers.

I think we had better not have anything more to do with these people and let them alone severely. They do not seem to know how to treat an Engineer properly and any charges we might make for advise so far given would only lead to a definite and further ill treatment on their part. My vote would be to say nothing more to them
