My dear General
Yours of the 16 was duly received. I had noticed the action of the Board of Trustees in the New York papers of the 13th but the article of the world correspondent and your article of the 18 I had not seen but was very glad to obtain them.
I think you did just right in this article you published and I was pleased to see you told of our own withdrawal from the service of this Committee.
If [they?] can get along without an outside, disinterested, scientific opinion, concerning the strength of the Bridge I am glad of it, but they cannot procure the opinions of those whose views are worth having, without paying for those thirty or forty years of experience.
