My dear General,

I showed our recent correspondence with the Brooklyn Bridge people to the Sec of War on Saturday evening last and he thought he was all first rate. He said however he thought it was a mistake in our not saying something now and having arranged a Compensation for ourselves if we go on with the business. Trowbridge who I saw the evening of the 6' when in New York. said Mayor Low was one of the Trustees of their College and I believe had intimated to him that there was an expectation of giving us something. So the Subject may not surprise him.

Very truly yours

Thos Lincoln Casey
