D. C. Chase, Sup't. of the Delaware and Raritan Canal Towing Line, being duly sworn saith, that on August 18th, 1887, the Tug Young America with 16 boats in tow assisted by other tugs when passing the Arthur Kill Bridge the tow struck the obstruction damaging boat Dr. R. V. Pierce; that on August 19th, when tug Amboy was passing this bridge with a tow assisted by two other tugs the tow came in contact with the obstruction, damaging boats Penna Canal Company No. 301, Penna Canal Company No. 275, and Penna Canal Company No. 276 and killing Andrew Puguski. That on August 26th Tug Amboy with a tow assisted by other tugs when passing the bridge damaged the boat F. A. Dingee; that on December 23d Tug Blue Bonnet with a tow when passing the obstruction damaged boats A. W. Horton and Neversink; that on January 14th, 1888, Tug Young America with a small tow when passing the bridge, the tow collided with the obstruction damaging boat Henry Hoffman; that on February 15th, Tug Winnie with a small tow assisted by other tugs when passing the bridge damaged the boat Joseph O'Callahan; that on February 29th Tug Jessie with a tow assisted by other tugs when passing the bridge the tow struck the obstruction badly damaging boat D. W. Ladue; that on March 2nd Tug Amboy with a small tow assisted by Tug Winnie when passing the bridge damaged boat F. E. James; that on March 9th Tug Amboy with a tow assisted by Tugs Winnie and Jessie when passing the bridge the tow collided with the piles damaging boat Hayes; that on March 11th, Tug Amboy with a tow assisted by Tugs Raritan, Young America, Jessie and Nevicus when passing the bridge the tow collided with the pier next to Staten Island Shore causing boat Lulu to sink and damaging boats Kate McMahon and W. K. Duryea; that on March 24th Tug Amboy with a small tow assisted by Tugs Clara and WIllie when passing the bridge the tow collided with the obstruction damaging boat Florence Moore; that on March 28th Tug Winnie with a tow assisted by Tugs Jessie, Nevicus, and Willie when passing the bridge the tow collided with the obstruction damaging boats Volunteer, Putnam and Midland; that on March 31 Tug Amboy with 8 boats assisted by Tugs Winnie, Willie and Nevicus when passing the bridge the tow struck the obstruction badly damaging the boat Peter Dufresne; that on April 11th Tug Amboy with a tow assisted by Tugs Willie, Clara, Mirage, Winnie and Jessie when passing the bridge the tow struck the Staten Island abutment damaging boats P. & R. R. No. 26 and Diamond.
