The wind on the 3rd was about N.W., but the weather fair and no sea on. The swims, however, were unsuccefsful, owing to the wire of the floats breaking in every instance except two, and even in those the transit observers failed to catch them through the draw. I have plotted them as nearly as possible but I do not think much reliance can be placed on them.

On the 4th we got three separate swims of three floats each. The first marked in blue on the chart, and the floats which were dropped in different positions numbered 1, 2 & 3. The first swim was nearly half flood. The second swim also of three floats was made when the tide was just past half flood and is marked in green
