with the present west draw span, & would thus provide ample channel way for masted vessels. It would also enable the ironwork of the present draw spans, which it is understood is about completed, to be utilized.

This plan would retain the location of + width of the western channel exactly as at present The eastern channel is at present 208' while the plan of the Board of 1886 makes it 450' in the clear. By omitting the east rest-pier of the present plan, the masonry of which has not yet been built, there will be a clear east span of 370', all of which can be made available by a moderate amount of dredging. While this is 80' less than the width recommended by the former Board, that is fully compensated for by the increased width of the draw span which makes the latter available when necessary for tows or vessels passing south.
